In implementation of the directives of Engineer Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, the Development and Construction Sector of the New Urban Communities Authority continues its efforts to develop and improve new cities.
These efforts include implementing an integrated plan to increase tree-planting rates and green spaces across various areas. This contributes to improving quality of life, preserving the distinctive environmental and urban character of new cities, and strengthening their green identity.
In this context, the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities prepared an infographic showing that 1,903,235 diverse trees had been planted across various areas of the new cities as of June 30, 2026. This was carried out as part of the presidential initiative “100 Million Trees.”
The ministry’s plan aims to increase the number of trees in new cities from around 1 million trees to 1.2 million trees targeted for planting during the current year as part of the presidential “100 Million Trees” initiative.
The ministry’s plan, represented by the Development and Construction Sector of the New Urban Communities Authority, includes implementing several measures. These include starting the planting of 200,000 diverse trees across various areas of the new cities and preserving existing trees.
The plan also includes intensifying irrigation, pruning, maintenance, and pest-control activities, improving the efficiency of green spaces and increasing their maintenance rates, and expanding the use of modern irrigation methods through sprinkler and drip irrigation networks for trees.
In addition, field monitoring of planting and landscaping activities will be intensified to support achieving the target while preserving the green identity and urban appearance of the new cities.
In the same context, the Ministry of Housing continues its efforts to improve the efficiency of green spaces in new cities, increase maintenance rates, and use modern irrigation methods through irrigation networks. The total area covered by green-space maintenance, implementation, and improvement works in new cities, including roads and city entrances, is approximately 55,154,508 square meters.
The maintenance and implementation of green spaces contribute to improving the urban appearance of new cities, enhancing the efficiency of open areas for citizens, and improving residents’ quality of life.
