MP Mohamed Attia El-Fayoumi, Chairman of the Housing Committee in the House of Representatives, warned that postponing the issuance of the new Old Rent Law would lead to legal chaos and threaten societal stability. In a televised statement with media host Sayed Ali, El-Fayoumi emphasized the importance of social peace and warned of growing tensions between landlords and tenants due to significant disparities in rental prices. He stressed that issuing the law in a balanced and timely manner is the only solution to ensure social stability and protect the rights of all parties.

The law is designed to improve tenants’ conditions by introducing a long transitional period, allowing them sufficient time to find alternative housing that suits their income levels. The government is committed to providing adequate housing for low-income citizens. El-Fayoumi highlighted that similar measures have been taken in the past, such as the implementation of shop closing times since 2019, with certain exceptions granted to tourist-oriented governorates requesting extended hours.

El-Fayoumi also affirmed that applying the law flexibly would help reduce the burden on the electrical grid, emphasizing the importance of adhering to legislation to conserve energy during critical periods. He called for a clear and structured legal framework to manage potential electricity supply crises. In conclusion, he urged citizens to support the state during difficult times to uphold national stability and promote social justice across Egypt.
