The Start of a Modern Market Project in the Third Settlement

Engineer Abdel Raouf El-Ghaity, Head of the New Cairo City Development Authority, has announced the commencement of the “Aswaq El-Kheir” project—a model urban market in the Third Settlement—covering an area of 76,172 square meters (approximately 18.1 acres). The project aims to relocate street vendors, eliminate informal markets, and remove encroachments in the city to maintain its civilized appearance. This initiative is part of the efforts by the city authority and the Board of Trustees to replace informal markets with organized, modern ones.

The Head of the New Cairo Authority emphasized that the implementing company must work around the clock to complete the project as quickly as possible. He also directed the executive departments in the Third Settlement, led by Engineer Tamer Gaber, Deputy Head of the Authority, to monitor the project regularly to avoid any obstacles that might delay progress.

For his part, Dr. Mohamed Zaki El-Wahsh, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of New Cairo, stated that the market will include a commercial area featuring shops and an administrative building, along with a recreational zone comprising retail outlets and cafés. Additionally, the project will feature a fuel station, a mosque, designated areas for daily, weekly, and seasonal markets, a covered parking lot, and green spaces.
