Engineer Randa El-Menshawy, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting on Thursday to review the latest developments of the Fustat Hills Park project, which is being developed over an area of 500 feddans in the Old Cairo district. The meeting focused on the final stages of the ongoing works in preparation for the project’s completion.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry, the Central Agency for Reconstruction, the National Housing and Building Research Center, and the project’s consulting team. Engineer Randa El-Menshawy explained that the meeting was held as part of the ministry’s commitment to accelerating the completion of the remaining works in preparation for the project’s official operation.
She emphasized that the project represents one of Egypt’s largest urban development and recreational initiatives, contributing to the enhancement of the area’s cultural, historical, and tourism value while improving services for both citizens and visitors. The project is also expected to reinforce Cairo’s position as one of the world’s most significant historical and cultural capitals.
The minister stressed the importance of establishing a comprehensive and well-defined management and operational strategy once all construction works are completed. Such a strategy will ensure maximum utilization of the project while preserving the substantial investments allocated to its development.
The meeting reviewed the final finishing works within the Investment Zone, which extends across 131,000 square meters overlooking Ain El-Hayat Lake. The area includes 12 restaurants, four commercial centers, four parking garages, and a dedicated venue for hosting major official events and celebrations. This section also features a Roman theater, a dancing water fountain, extensive landscaping works, several service buildings, lakes, and green spaces.
The meeting also examined construction progress within the Cultural Zone and the River Zone. Located opposite the main entrance of the Fustat Hills Park project, the Cultural Zone is one of the project’s signature attractions.
It features a main promenade overlooking the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, surrounded by open plazas designated for cultural activities, restaurants, and various services. The area includes the project’s main entrance, four restaurants and cafés with a total built-up area of 216 square meters, three fountains, and an overall area of 26,864 square meters.
The minister also reviewed progress in the market zone, which is being developed in multiple phases across 60,000 square meters. The commercial district aims to stimulate tourism, support the national economy, and preserve traditional Egyptian handicrafts, including glassmaking, ceramics, candle making, spinning, and weaving. The project is being implemented in three phases and will include 19 retail shops, parking facilities, an artificial lake, landscaped green areas, and a three-star hotel.
The meeting further reviewed implementation progress in the Hills and Valley Zone, which consists of three hills of varying elevations connected by a central watercourse known as “the River.” The landscape is designed with a series of terraces extending from the riverbanks to the hilltops, providing panoramic views of the entire project, the surrounding areas, the Citadel of Salah El-Din, and the Pyramids.
The zone also includes the Kasbah Hill, covering 13,000 square meters, which will feature a tourist hotel, service buildings, parking areas, an artificial lake, viewing terraces overlooking a waterfall, a pedestrian bridge connecting different sections of the project, a cafeteria, and a cascading waterfall. It also includes the Excavation Hill, which is currently being developed into an integrated archaeological, cultural, and tourist destination.
The minister also monitored progress in the Adventure Zone, which includes several service buildings, lakes, and landscaped green areas. The zone features a recreational playground, three service buildings, a children’s play facility covering 505 square meters, a 167-square-meter service building, a public restroom building of the same size, utility infrastructure, and landscaping works covering 97,238 square meters, in addition to ongoing works within the River Zone.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the minister directed all concerned authorities to continue close coordination and promptly resolve any challenges that may affect construction or future operations. She stressed the importance of ensuring the project’s objectives are fully achieved, supporting sustainable urban development, and enhancing the quality of services provided to both residents and visitors.
It is worth noting that the Fustat Hills Park project is being developed over 500 feddans in a prime location at the heart of historic Cairo. The site was previously used as a landfill and is now being transformed into one of the largest parks of its kind in the Middle East.
The project will offer a diverse range of attractions designed to celebrate Egypt’s heritage across the Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic, and modern eras, alongside cultural activities, commercial facilities, hospitality services, open-air theaters, and recreational spaces, making it a comprehensive cultural, tourism, and entertainment destination.
