In accordance with the directives of the minister of housing, utilities, and urban communities to maintain continuous field follow-ups of drinking water and sanitation projects across Upper Egypt governorates, Engineer Mostafa El-Shimy, acting chairman of the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater, stated that the presidential initiative “Decent Life” constitutes a qualitative transformation in the level of utility services delivered to citizens, particularly in rural villages and the most underserved communities.
He highlighted the need for accurate, ongoing field monitoring of implementation progress, along with round-the-clock work to ensure project completion within the designated schedules.
El-Shimy clarified during his inspections in the Assiut and Minya governorates that the Holding Company consistently tracks the progress and operational status of drinking water and sanitation projects while also providing full technical and operational support to its affiliated companies.
This approach aims to improve the efficiency of the operational system and raise the quality of services offered to citizens, while stressing adherence to the highest implementation and operational standards to guarantee the sustainability of utility services.
He also noted that the ongoing water and sanitation projects in Upper Egypt receive considerable attention from the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities due to their direct role in enhancing quality of life and supporting sustainable development efforts. He further emphasized the importance of accelerating project completion and bringing them into service to maximize benefits for residents in the targeted areas.
Engineer Mostafa El-Shimy further underlined the importance of full coordination between implementing, consulting, and executing parties to overcome any challenges that may arise during implementation, in addition to continuous monitoring of project progress rates, especially in wastewater treatment plants, drinking water stations, pumping and lifting stations, transmission lines, and distribution networks.
For his part, Dr. Salah Biyoumi, vice chairman of the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater, confirmed that integration among all stakeholders involved in the projects is essential to speeding up completion while maintaining the highest standards of quality and technical efficiency. He pointed out that the current phase requires intensified efforts and ongoing follow-up to ensure that projects are delivered according to their planned timelines.
Biyoumi added that the drinking water and sanitation projects implemented under the “Decent Life” presidential initiative play a direct role in improving services for citizens in targeted villages, upgrading infrastructure efficiency, and promoting environmental and health sustainability. He stressed that the state is placing exceptional emphasis on the utilities sector as one of the most critical sectors affecting citizens’ daily lives.
He also indicated that ongoing field visits in Assiut and Minya are aimed at evaluating actual implementation progress, monitoring trial operation phases, and identifying any technical or execution-related issues to address them promptly, ensuring that projects are activated efficiently and provide the highest possible level of service to citizens.
