Egypt’s “Rawdat El-Sayyida” Project Wins Prestigious Arab Housing Award

Cairo, Egypt – The Executive Office of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Construction announced the winners of the “Residential Project Award” for 2024 during its 89th session held today, October 16, 2024. Among the winners is Egypt’s “Rawdat El-Sayyida” project, which has been praised for its notable urban development and positive impact on the residents’ lives.

Previously known as the “Tal El-Aqarib” area, the project aims to transform a neglected slum with inadequate infrastructure into a modern urban community that provides adequate housing. The project was officially inaugurated in October 2021 and consists of approximately 816 residential units and 198 commercial shops.

Engineer Sherif El-Shorbagy, the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, celebrated the victory of the “Rawdat El-Sayyida” project, extending his congratulations and appreciation to Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, who championed and monitored the project during his tenure as Minister of Housing. He also commended all the employees of the Ministry of Housing, Cairo Governorate, the Urban Development Fund, and everyone who contributed to the project’s execution.

Minister El-Shorbagy emphasized that the project aims to create a conducive architectural and urban environment while preserving a distinctive architectural style that reflects respect for the local cultural and historical heritage. The initiative seeks to balance the provision of quality services at suitable density levels to ensure comprehensive community benefit, thereby enhancing the project’s significance as a vital element in improving quality of life.

The Egyptian government continues its efforts to develop existing urban areas and informal settlements by providing essential services such as schools, healthcare centers, and recreational areas, in addition to creating job opportunities that contribute to improving the economic condition and raising the standard of living for citizens.

This award serves as recognition and affirmation of the ongoing efforts of Arab countries in the field of housing and sustainable urban development. It is granted to the best integrated service housing project that meets the award’s objectives and is implemented in an Arab country. The award aims to encourage competition and creativity among Arab architects, engineers, and technicians in deriving practical solutions from their architectural and engineering heritage.

The awards will be presented during the 8th Arab Housing Conference, which will take place alongside the 41st session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Construction, scheduled to be held in the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria in December.
