ToggleDiscussion on Integrated Coastal Urban Management
On Sunday, January 19, 2025, HBRC hosted a discussion titled “Integrated Urban Management for Coastal Areas on the North Coast.” The session, held in collaboration with the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, represented by the Egyptian General Authority for Shore Protection, brought together experts in coastal protection.
The primary objective was to develop a code for coastal protection requirements and outline a strategic plan for safeguarding Egypt’s coastal regions.
Strategic Focus on Coastal Protection
Dr. Mohamed Masoud El-Saadawy, Chairman of HBRC, emphasized the growing challenge posed by climate change, particularly for coastal and delta regions globally. He noted that Egypt’s coastal areas, rich in natural and real estate assets, demand immediate attention to mitigate rising sea levels and other environmental impacts.
Innovative Solutions for Resilient Coastlines
As part of this initiative, the center is drafting a comprehensive code to establish standards for securing coastal infrastructure and investments. This code will focus on innovative and non-conventional structural solutions to address environmental changes and safeguard Egypt’s distinguished coastline.
This collaborative effort marks a significant step toward ensuring sustainable urban development and resilience in the face of climate challenges.
