Egyptian Housing Minister Reviews Progress of Water and Sanitation Projects

Cairo, December 23, 2024 – Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting yesterday with Engineer Ahmed Abdelkader, Head of the Executive Authority for Potable Water and Sanitation, to review the progress of ongoing projects under the authority’s management. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the ministry and the authority.

Key Project Updates

The meeting commenced with a review of the progress on raw water pipelines from Maadi’s intake to the New Cairo water treatment plant. These pipelines, with a total length of 27,251 meters and diameters of 2,200 mm and 2,600 mm, are undergoing rehabilitation, including the renovation of valve chambers for the second line.

Major Projects Discussed

  • Operation and Maintenance: The water supply system in New Cairo.
  • Infrastructure Upgrades: The water plant in 10th of Ramadan City and the replacement of the second steel pipeline in New Cairo.
  • Expansion Projects: Upgrades for New Cairo pumping stations, irrigation networks in 6th of October City, and storage pump expansions in the New Administrative Capital.

Addressing Challenges

The discussion also highlighted challenges, including road conflicts impacting project timelines. The minister emphasized the resolution of these issues to avoid delays.

Minister’s Directives

At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister El-Sherbiny stressed the importance of allocating necessary financial resources and expediting project completion while maintaining high-quality standards.

This review aligns with the ministry’s commitment to improving water and sanitation infrastructure to meet the growing demands of urban development in Egypt.
