Under the directives of Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, a delegation from the Ministry participated in the 71st meeting of the Technical Committee of the Council of Arab Ministers of Housing and Construction, held from October 19 to 21 at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
The Egyptian delegation included Engineer Nafisa Hashem, Supervisor of the Housing and Utilities Sector, Engineer Mostafa El-Naggar, Head of the Sector, along with several communication coordinators.
The agenda comprised 25 items, including the Arab Housing Conference, Arab Housing Day, the Council’s Special Award, updating the official website, establishing a housing database, and the Arab Ministerial Forum for Housing. Discussions also covered Arab cooperation with other countries in various housing and urban development fields.

Engineer Nafisa Hashem reviewed Egypt’s contributions within the Council’s work, including preparations to host the 9th Arab Housing Conference in December 2026, titled “Towards Smart and Sustainable Urban Communities.” A draft of the conference agenda was distributed for member states’ comments. She also discussed a study prepared by Egypt on Arab countries’ experiences in social housing, encouraging member states to contribute their input to enrich the content before its official launch during the next session.
The meeting also covered cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and follow-up on the Arab Housing Strategy and the New Urban Agenda, with participants commending Egypt’s submission of its second national report within the UN Secretary-General’s report to the League of Arab States.
The committee further explored experience exchange in housing projects, capacity-building for professionals, implementation of Arab construction codes, and monitoring progress within the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction.
At the conclusion of the sessions, a comprehensive report with recommendations will be submitted to the Executive Office of the Council.
