Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, highlighted Egypt’s intensive preparations for the upcoming World Urban Forum (WUF12), stating that efforts to host the event have been ongoing for over two months. A joint committee led by the Prime Minister, along with several key ministers, has overseen planning, with El-Sherbiny and the Minister of Local Development appointed to monitor all aspects of the event.
In an interview with Extra News, Minister El-Sherbiny shared that a recent inspection confirmed readiness for the event, noting that registration has reached approximately 28,000 attendees—a substantial increase from previous forums, showcasing Egypt’s success in attracting significant global interest.
The designated venue is fully prepared to accommodate the large turnout, with the main hall ready to host both the opening and closing ceremonies. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi is set to attend, and confirmations have been received from several heads of state, prime ministers, and around 75 ministers. Additionally, representatives from civil society and delegations from 180 countries are expected, underscoring the forum’s recognition as a milestone for Egypt’s development achievements over the past decade.
El-Sherbiny outlined Egypt’s goals for the forum, which include sharing its experience in developing smart cities, modernizing informal areas, and showcasing major urban renewal projects like Maspero Triangle, Al-Fustat, and the historic Wall of Al-Maghara. He emphasized that Egypt’s extensive work in urban redevelopment over the past ten years will be highlighted, including the government’s advancements in diverse real estate investments and properties ready for export. The forum presents a valuable opportunity for Egypt to promote its real estate export strategy, bolstering investment in a wide portfolio of residential units and mixed-use lands.
