Egypt is stepping up efforts to expand housing availability by increasing private sector participation in affordable housing projects, as part of a broader urban development strategy.

Under a newly introduced program, private developers will take part in building subsidized housing units. The first phase will include around 17,000 homes across eight new cities, marking a shift toward public-private partnerships to meet growing demand and reduce pressure on government resources.

This initiative comes alongside ongoing national housing plans that aim to deliver approximately 220,000 units for middle- and upper-middle-income citizens, in addition to about 130,000 high-end residential units currently under development. These projects fall under larger frameworks such as the “Housing for All Egyptians” program, which focuses on improving living standards and expanding access to quality housing.

At the same time, work continues on the “Decent Life” (Haya Karima) initiative, a major rural development project designed to upgrade infrastructure and services in villages across the country. Authorities are aiming to complete their first phase within the year, with wastewater and sanitation systems identified as key priorities for the next stage.

Coastal development is also progressing, particularly along the Mediterranean coast. Projects in New Alamein and Marina include beachfront residential towers, the Latin Quarter, and a planned conference and exhibition center, all aimed at boosting tourism and investment.

In addition, a new rental housing program is set to launch, starting with 10,000 units. The scheme is intended to improve access to housing and address long-standing challenges in Egypt’s rental market.

Officials emphasized the importance of maintaining strict timelines and improving oversight to ensure efficient delivery, as Egypt continues to push forward with large-scale urban expansion and infrastructure development plans.
