Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, met today with Bruno Koné, Minister of Construction and Urban Planning of Côte d’Ivoire, and Albert Dol, Ambassador of Côte d’Ivoire to Egypt, along with their accompanying delegation. The meeting, held on the third day of the 12th World Urban Forum, focused on Egypt’s urban development achievements and explored opportunities for collaboration between the two nations.
Minister El-Sherbiny welcomed his Ivorian counterparts, affirming Egypt’s commitment to sharing its expertise in urban development across Africa. He emphasized that Egypt, guided by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives, is ready to support African countries in their urbanization efforts by offering insights from Egypt’s urban expansion and infrastructure projects.
El-Sherbiny highlighted the capabilities of Egyptian construction companies, consultancy firms, and real estate developers, noting their extensive experience in executing various urban development projects. He remarked that Egyptian contractors already have a strong presence in both African and Middle Eastern markets and are well-prepared to collaborate on future projects in Côte d’Ivoire. To strengthen this partnership, he proposed organizing joint workshops between the two countries to outline potential areas of cooperation.
In response, Minister Bruno Koné praised Egypt’s accomplishments in urban development, expressing Côte d’Ivoire’s interest in partnering with Egypt and its companies. He outlined his country’s desire for collaboration in social housing, informal settlement improvement, and the development of new cities.
The meeting underscored the shared goals of Egypt and Côte d’Ivoire in fostering sustainable urban development, aiming to leverage Egypt’s experience to contribute to Côte d’Ivoire’s urban growth and modernization efforts.
