Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, welcomed Sergei Terentiev, Belarusian Ambassador to Cairo, and his accompanying delegation at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The meeting aimed to congratulate El-Sherbini on his new role as Housing Minister and to discuss potential areas of cooperation between Egypt and Belarus. The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdel Khaleq Ibrahim, Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs, and Ambassador Hassan El-Leithy, the Ministry’s International Cooperation Advisor.
During the meeting, Minister El-Sherbini highlighted that several preparatory meetings had previously been held between the two sides, particularly in the field of infrastructure, with a focus on water supply and sanitation systems. Since 2014, Egypt has made significant strides in water and sanitation projects, and international expertise will further strengthen this progress, contributing to the government’s efforts to enhance these essential services.
The discussion also covered housing and new city development, areas where Egypt has witnessed remarkable advancements. The minister pointed out the potential for exchanging expertise in affordable housing solutions and the introduction of modern construction technologies to reduce costs in building subsidized housing units.
Ambassador Terentiev reiterated Belarus’ commitment to advancing cooperation in infrastructure and utilities. He also emphasized the importance of finalizing the agreements reached in these fields and involving Belarusian experts in Egypt’s national projects, particularly the presidential initiative “Hayah Karima” (Decent Life), aimed at developing Egypt’s rural areas.
