Minister of Housing Sherif El-Sherbiny recently convened his regular meeting to monitor the progress of the “Great Transfiguration” project in the city of Saint Catherine. The meeting, attended by officials from the Ministry of Housing, the Central Agency for Reconstruction, project consultants, and contractors, was conducted via video conference.
During the meeting, the minister emphasized the need to expedite the implementation of all components of the project. He directed stakeholders to provide daily progress reports, increase labor and equipment resources, and strictly adhere to the designated timelines. El-Sherbiny also stressed the importance of evaluating contractor performance against the approved schedules to ensure accountability and efficiency.
The minister highlighted that the project is under the direct supervision of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, underscoring its national significance. He called for collective efforts and coordination among all parties to maintain momentum and meet the specified deadlines.

- Construction of a new visitor center and the Peace Plaza.
- Revitalization of Wadi Al-Deir and enhancement of the current eco-lodges.
- Establishment of a new eco-lodge extension and a mountain hotel.
- Development of a high-altitude tourist resort and a VIP rest house.
- Modernization of the local bazaars and construction of the Al-Zaytouna residential district.
- Establishment of a new government complex and upgrades to the Bedouin housing area.
- Restoration of the heritage town and creation of a recreational tourist promenade.
- Expansion of the road network, utilities, and infrastructure, including flood risk mitigation measures.
- Upgrades to power lines, transformer stations, and other essential services.
These efforts aim to turn Saint Catherine into a prime destination combining spiritual, mountainous, and wellness tourism.
Comprehensive Development and Integration
The Central Agency for Reconstruction, with funding from the New Urban Communities Authority, oversees the execution of the project. The initiative also seeks to improve infrastructure and recreational services, linking Saint Catherine to surrounding coastal cities, such as El-Tor, Sharm El-Sheikh, and Dahab, thereby enhancing the city’s connectivity and appeal.
