As part of his follow-up on the directives of Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, during his visit to Sheikh Zayed City, Deputy Minister Dr. Sayed Ismail held a comprehensive meeting with ministry officials. The meeting aimed to review progress in urban development, infrastructure, and the Sheikh Zayed City water treatment plant.

Attendees and Meeting Focus The meeting was attended by Dr. Osama Hamdy, Advisor to the Ministry of Housing for Follow-up, Projects, and Utilities; Dr. Mohamed Hassan, Head of the Regulatory Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater Services; Engineer Amin Ghoneim, Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority for Development; Engineer Ashraf Fathy, Assistant Vice President of the Authority for Development; Engineer Marwa Hussein, Head of Sheikh Zayed City Authority; Engineer Mansour Badawy, Chairman of the Drinking Water and Wastewater Company in Giza; representatives of the Project Management Unit (PMU), and officials from the Regulatory Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater Services. Representatives of a local manufacturing company specializing in electromechanical equipment for water projects were also present.

Dr. Sayed Ismail opened the meeting by emphasizing the importance of implementing Minister El-Sherbini’s directives to protect existing investments and assets, ensuring their proper management for optimal utilization. He highlighted the critical role of the Sheikh Zayed water treatment plant in supplying the city with drinking water. Immediate actions were urged to enhance the plant’s efficiency and increase its production capacity to meet water demands effectively.

Collaboration and Private Sector Involvement The Deputy Minister stressed the need for continuous coordination between the Sheikh Zayed City Authority and the Giza Drinking Water and Wastewater Company to maintain water supply quality. He also explored the possibility of involving the private sector in operating and maintaining strategic facilities in the city, aiming to protect investments and encourage private sector participation in executing government plans.

Local Manufacturing Initiatives Representatives from a specialized company presented their efforts to localize the manufacturing of electromechanical equipment necessary for water and wastewater projects. The company, in partnership with foreign enterprises, has established a factory in Egypt to transfer knowledge and technology. Dr. Sayed Ismail and other attendees discussed the technical specifications of locally manufactured equipment and how it could be utilized in projects according to planned timelines, reducing the reliance on imported equipment.

Conclusion and Future Plans The meeting concluded with an agreement to assess the current status of the Sheikh Zayed water treatment plant to identify the required actions for ensuring sufficient water supply for future needs.
