In accordance with the directives of Engineer Randa El-Menshawy to closely follow up on ongoing drinking water and wastewater projects across the country, Engineer Ahmed Omran conducted an extensive field visit to Minya Governorate.
He was accompanied by Engineer Mostafa El-Shemy, Major General Engineer Amin Shouky, and Dr. Salah Bayoumi. The visit aimed to review the progress of drinking water and sanitation projects and evaluate implementation rates under the presidential initiative “Decent Life.”
The Deputy Minister began his tour with an expanded meeting at the Minya Governorate headquarters, where he was received by Major General Emad Kadwani and Dr. Mohamed Ali Gaber. The meeting discussed the implementation status of water and wastewater projects across the governorate’s districts, especially those included in the “Decent Life” initiative.
It also addressed key implementation challenges and coordination mechanisms among relevant authorities to accelerate execution, ensure timely operation, and enhance service delivery to citizens.
The governor confirmed that Minya is witnessing significant progress in drinking water and wastewater projects, particularly under “Decent Life.” He highlighted continuous on-site follow-up in coordination with the Ministry of Housing and relevant executive bodies to speed up implementation and ensure that services reach citizens, especially in the most underserved villages.
For his part, Engineer Ahmed Omran emphasized that the Ministry gives high priority to water and wastewater projects in Upper Egypt, considering them essential projects directly linked to citizens’ quality of life.
He stressed the importance of adhering to approved timelines, promptly addressing technical remarks, and applying the highest standards of quality and efficiency in execution and operation to ensure rapid service delivery.
The tour included an inspection of the Minya Wastewater Treatment Plant, where officials reviewed its components. The plant has a design capacity of 120/90 thousand cubic meters per day and includes main and auxiliary pumping stations and discharge and outfall lines, as well as a tree-farm irrigation system, contributing to improved wastewater management and expanded reuse of treated water.
The delegation also inspected the new Al-Adwa Water Treatment Plant, implemented under the “Decent Life” initiative, with a design capacity of 17,000 cubic meters per day, serving approximately 200,000 residents in the Atf Haydar village council area, as well as Zawyet Barmasha, Barmasha, El-Gehad 4, and their surrounding hamlets. The plant also strengthens water pressure in Al-Adwa city, Basyoun, nearby villages, and the Bani Amer village council.
They further inspected the Bramasha Wastewater Treatment Plant in Minya Governorate, currently under construction with a capacity of 30 thousand cubic meters per day using the extended aeration system. The plant will serve several villages in Al-Adwa district, improving sanitation services and raising environmental and public health standards.
The delegation also reviewed the Kafr El-Maghrabi Wastewater Treatment Plant, which has a design capacity of 15 thousand cubic meters per day. It will serve the villages of Kafr El-Maghrabi, Sheikh Masoud, Mafouz, Tayba El-Nasr 6, and El-Qayat.
Officials reviewed construction progress and trial operation phases, stressing the need to complete remaining works quickly so the plant can enter service and benefit the targeted communities under “Decent Life.”
Engineer Mostafa El- Shemy noted that the holding company continuously monitors the operation and implementation status of ongoing projects in Minya. He added that technical and operational support is being provided to affiliated companies to improve service efficiency and ensure the sustainability of water and wastewater systems while maintaining continuous field follow-up and accelerating implementation to meet planned schedules.
Major General Engineer Amin Shouky explained that the projects in Minya are part of an integrated national plan aimed at expanding utility services in the most underserved villages and areas.
He added that the authority continuously tracks implementation rates and coordinates with executing and consulting bodies to resolve challenges and ensure timely delivery with the highest quality standards.
Dr. Salah Bayoumi emphasized the importance of integration and coordination among all relevant entities to ensure fast, high-quality implementation and operation, in line with Ministry of Housing directives to continuously monitor infrastructure projects and improve services provided to citizens.
