Crisis and Disaster Management Chamber at Ministry of Housing Holds First Coordination Meeting
Representatives of the Central Crisis and Disaster Management Chamber at the Ministry of Housing held their first coordination meeting in the main conference room of the Crisis and Disaster Management Chamber at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital. The meeting was chaired by Engineer Ashraf Fathy, Assistant Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority for Development and City Upgrades, and Tarek Qarnfil, Head of the Central Administration at the Minister of Housing’s Office.
Dr. Walid Abbas, Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority for Planning and Projects and Supervisor of the Minister’s Office, stated that this meeting aligns with directives from Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, Minister of Housing, to focus on innovative ideas and unconventional solutions. These efforts aim to maximize resources, ensure sustainable development rates, and enhance coordination between ongoing efforts. The goal is to reduce the risks of crises and disasters and to improve response capabilities through advanced technological systems that predict crises in various forms and sizes.
Engineer Ashraf Fathy highlighted that the meeting reviewed the vision, mission, and goals of the Crisis and Disaster Management system. It also discussed the main tools for managing crises and emergencies according to Egypt’s Vision 2030, the key responsibilities of the chamber, and the concept of the main operations management (Command and Control Center). Additionally, the proposed organizational structure of the chamber and the necessary tools and mechanisms to facilitate its operations were outlined.
Tarek Qarnfil added that the meeting covered several crucial topics, including the chamber’s objectives, stages of crisis management, instant containment methods, and the importance of creating a specialized electronic library for crises and disasters. They also discussed launching a mobile application focused on crisis management, capable of real-time event tracking and immediate connection with relevant ministry officials.
The meeting concluded with several recommendations, including the completion of information infrastructure and electronic connectivity between the chamber’s headquarters and affiliated entities. It also called for the establishment of an electronic library for crises and disasters, managed by the National Research Center, and the creation of a specialized magazine to promote crisis management culture. Furthermore, an electronic platform will be developed to foster innovation and creativity in crisis management. Training workshops for the chamber’s team will be organized to ensure readiness and effective crisis management.
