Aswan Governor Urges Immediate Implementation of Urgent Development Plan for Water Services

Major General Ismail Kamal, Governor of Aswan, has emphasized the immediate execution of the urgent plan announced by the Minister of Housing during a recent press conference at the Governorate’s headquarters. The plan involves implementing ten projects within a timeframe of two to six months, with a total budget allocation of EGP 500 million.

The announcement was made during a meeting between Governor Kamal and Engineer Amer Abu Halawa, the newly appointed head of the local branch of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Company. Abu Halawa’s appointment comes as part of a coordinated effort between the Governor and the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, to address pressing water service issues.

Governor Kamal stressed the importance of utilizing the allocated funds efficiently to achieve the maximum benefit for improving water supply services in Aswan City. He underscored the necessity of ensuring high-quality execution of the planned projects under the supervision of the company.

Additionally, the Governor directed the review of all projects completed during the previous period. He called for collaboration with Swiss aid organizations to leverage their expertise in restructuring and institutional development. Furthermore, he emphasized integrating skilled professionals from outside the company to enhance operational efficiency and deliver better services to Aswan’s residents.

The Governor also instructed the preparation of a comprehensive study within two to three weeks, detailing the equipment, resources, and financial support required. This study will be presented during a coordination meeting with the attendance of Engineer Mamdouh Raslan, Chairman of the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater, to establish an actionable implementation framework.

Simultaneously, preparations for future projects, spanning a year and a half, are underway. These projects, announced by the Minister of Housing, are backed by a financial allocation of EGP 1.3 billion to strengthen water and sanitation networks, pipelines, and pumping stations.

Governor Kamal further stressed the importance of daily monitoring of ongoing projects to ensure their success and instructed the activation of the hotline service (125) to promptly address complaints and provide immediate solutions.
