Dr. Abdel Khalek Ibrahim, Assistant Minister of Housing for Technical Affairs, affirmed that the state attaches great importance to strengthening the distinctive urban identity of new cities, given its vital role in attracting international tourism and real estate investments, while also ensuring a balance between urban development and preserving the local character of each area.

During a panel discussion held as part of the “Investgate” roundtable, Ibrahim noted that the launch of New Alamein City in 2016 marked a significant turning point in applying innovative urban and tourism concepts. He highlighted that the residential towers project was among the first major initiatives to embody this vision, especially since the idea of constructing towers was not common in Egypt’s previous cities.

He explained that regional planning for the North Coast relies on a clear division of tourism functions: some cities are designated to serve domestic tourism, while others are directed toward international tourism, such as New Alamein and Ras El Hekma. Meanwhile, cities like New Aswan and New Minya offer unique cultural and tourism features that reflect the distinct identity of each region—whether cultural, religious, or coastal.

The Assistant Minister also emphasized that tourism development goes beyond enhancing infrastructure or providing high-quality tourist services. It encompasses the entire visitor experience, which is shaped by natural factors such as beaches and deserts, as well as cultural and heritage elements that highlight local traditions and showcase Egypt’s unique identity.
