Minister of Housing Conducts Surprise Visit to the Tallel Al-Fustat Gardens Project

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, carried out an unannounced inspection tour of the Tallel Al-Fustat Gardens project in Old Cairo, adjacent to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Ain El-Sira Lake, the Religious Complex, and the Amr Ibn Al-As Mosque. The aim of the visit was to follow up on the progress of works across the different components of the project. He was accompanied by the Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction and senior officials from the Ministry of Housing.

The minister began his tour in the investment zone, which covers an area of 131,000 square meters overlooking Ain El-Hayat Lake. This zone includes a number of facilities such as 12 restaurants, 4 commercial malls, and 4 car parks, in addition to a designated space for large official events such as the Roman Theater, the musical fountain, and landscaping works. The zone also features the Adventure Area, which contains service buildings, lakes, and green spaces. The minister instructed that work on the creation of green areas and the maintenance of plantations be accelerated, along with improving the efficiency of irrigation systems.

He then moved on to inspect the Hills Area, where he reviewed the execution stages along with the Heritage Area and the River Area. The project consists of the Hills and Valley zone, which includes three hills of varying elevations separated by a waterway known as “The River.” These hills are designed to start with a series of terraces from the river’s edge up to the summit, allowing their peaks to overlook iconic landmarks such as the Citadel of Saladin and the Pyramids.

During the tour, the minister reviewed the detailed plans of these hills, which include pathways, diverse gardens, restaurant spaces, and areas for festivals and entertainment.

He also inspected the development works at the Commercial Markets Area, which extends over 60,000 square meters with the goal of boosting tourism and supporting the national economy. This area promotes traditional handicrafts such as glassmaking, ceramics, candle production, spinning, and weaving. The market zone is being implemented in three phases and will include 19 shops, parking facilities, an artificial lake, green spaces, and a three-star hotel.

At the end of his tour, the Minister of Housing emphasized the need to accelerate implementation rates and increase the workforce in order to speed up completion of the project and ensure it is finalized according to the set timeline.
