Minister of Housing Inspects the Civilized Market Project in New Cairo

Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, inspected the implementation progress of the Civilized Market project in New Cairo on Monday. The visit came as part of the ministry’s follow-up on development and service projects carried out by the New Urban Communities Authority. He was accompanied by Dr. Mohamed El-Wehsh, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of New Cairo City, along with officials from the ministry, the authority, the head of the city authority, and members of the Board of Trustees.

During his visit, the minister reviewed the ongoing works at the project and listened to a detailed explanation of the implementation phases. The Civilized Market project extends over a total area of 76,172 square meters (approximately 18.1 feddans). It aims to eliminate informal markets, encroachments, and street vendors, while also providing an organized and safe environment for commercial activities that will serve the entire population of New Cairo. In addition, the project seeks to enhance the general appearance of new cities as part of the state’s broader efforts to support urban development.

The minister emphasized that the Civilized Market will contribute to creating new job opportunities and will completely eliminate random street markets by offering modern alternatives characterized by contemporary design and urban development. He described the project as a qualitative addition to the service network and a model of sustainable development designed to improve quality of life and reinforce the cultural and urban dimension.

In the same context, Engineer Abdel Raouf El-Ghaiti, Head of the City Authority, explained that the project includes a wide range of facilities and services. These components consist of a commercial zone with diverse shops, an administrative building, and an entertainment area featuring cafés, restaurants, a mosque, a fuel station, and a children’s play area. The market also provides daily outlets for selling vegetables, fruits, meat, and fish at affordable prices to ensure the availability of essential goods. In addition, seasonal outlets will be allocated to prevent the spread of unregulated temporary markets and will offer exhibition spaces during special occasions such as the back-to-school season, the holy month of Ramadan, and national holidays.
