The Ministry of Housing announced the details surrounding the decision to withdraw the land allocated to Zamalek Sporting Club in Hadayek October City. The ministry explained in its statement that the land was originally allocated to the club in 2003, along with the necessary timelines and facilities. However, in 2020, a decision was issued to cancel the allocation due to the lack of seriousness in implementing the project.
Following the directives of the President of the Republic in 2021, the club was granted an additional two-year grace period to complete all constructions and finalize the works on the land. It was also agreed that if the implementation was not carried out, the land would revert to the Hadayek October City Authority.
The grace period ended on November 10, 2023, and it was noted that the completion rate did not exceed 1% at that time. In April 2024, Zamalek Club submitted a letter that included an intensive timeline to complete the project by July 2025, along with a commitment to return the land to the authority if the plan was not implemented. However, follow-ups revealed no tangible progress in execution.
By June 2025, the club was formally notified of the initiation of legal procedures to withdraw the land due to non-compliance. The decision was issued on June 11, 2025, and executed on August 19 of the same year.
Regarding the letter from the Presidential Adviser for Urban Planning dated August 4, 2025, the ministry clarified that it was received after the withdrawal decision had already been issued and was therefore not contextually or temporally relevant. The adviser also confirmed the validity of the ministry’s position.
