The inauguration of the new tourist marina on the western Corniche in Sohag City took place in the presence of Major General Abdel Fattah Siraj, Governor of Sohag, and Engineer Heba Mohamed Abdel Hamid, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Housing in the governorate.
This project comes as part of the governorate’s plan to boost both domestic and international tourism. The marina has been built on an area exceeding 2,000 square meters, enabling it to accommodate two to three tourist ships at the same time. This development marks a significant improvement compared to the old Nasser District marina, which could only host a single ship.
The new marina includes an administrative building, rooms designated for electrical services, a main cafeteria, and four visitor waiting areas. The architectural design combines modern visual identity with a Pharaonic touch, adding a unique artistic appeal to the site.
The project also serves as a starting point for the development of the area beneath the western Corniche, which will be included in a comprehensive urban development plan for Sohag. The designs will be implemented in line with the governorate’s developmental vision, aiming to make this marina one of the key tourist attractions and a supporter of both local and international investment.
Major General Abdel Fattah Siraj also directed that the gates of the western Corniche be renovated to enhance their aesthetic appearance, alongside the maintenance of lighting poles and fixtures along the Corniche. This aims to improve the infrastructure and make the marina an integrated part of the city’s urban modernization plan.
It is worth mentioning that the western Corniche marina had been unused for many years, and its rehabilitation marks a crucial step toward revitalizing tourism and supporting comprehensive development plans in the governorate.
