Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting to follow up on the progress of projects being implemented by the Ministry within the framework of the presidential initiative “Decent Life” for the development of rural Egyptian villages. The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry, the Central Agency for Reconstruction, the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater, as well as the Executive Agency and the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage.
The minister began the meeting by emphasizing the necessity of adhering to the set timelines for project completion, stressing their significance in improving the living standards of residents in the targeted villages across various governorates to ensure a decent quality of life.
During the meeting, the minister reviewed the execution status of the first phase of the initiative, where the Ministry of Housing, through the National Organization for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage, is working on a range of projects. These include sewage networks, wastewater treatment plants, drinking water networks, and water stations. A total of 1,814 projects are currently being implemented across 427 villages. The minister also reviewed the handover status of completed projects, which include force mains, lifting stations, and facilities for the treatment of drinking water and wastewater.
The meeting also addressed the status of projects carried out by the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater across 740 villages located in 10 governorates. These projects encompass the extension and reinforcement of sewage networks, installation of household wastewater connections, drinking water networks, household water connections, and potable water treatment plants.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the minister stressed the importance of meeting final deadlines for the completion of projects. He also called for the preparation of a comprehensive report on the current execution status and requested a clear plan for completing ongoing projects and addressing any remarks to enhance performance. The minister underscored the need to specify the number of projects to be finalized and delivered each month so they can be put into service promptly.
