His statement comes in response to calls from residents of Damanhour urging swift action to implement demolition orders for such hazardous structures.
During a phone-in interview, Mowafi clarified that executive authorities are thoroughly assessing the condition of the buildings at risk, working in full coordination with the relevant bodies. He added that delays in some cases stem from legal appeals filed by certain beneficiaries, which prevent demolition from being carried out until final judicial rulings are issued.
He further noted that these legal appeals are often submitted by heirs or individuals with unofficial dealings related to the property owners. Mowafi pointed out that the enactment of the Old Rent Law will be a crucial step toward resolving these long-standing issues. It is expected to facilitate the effective execution of demolition orders and help address the current legal and procedural complexities.
