Housing Fund: Condition for Old Rent Tenants to Benefit from the Social Housing Initiative

Engineer Mai Abdel Hamid, CEO of the Social Housing and Real Estate Finance Support Fund, clarified that tenants residing under the old rent system who wish to obtain units within the Social Housing Project will be given priority—on the condition that they relinquish their current rental contract upon receiving the new unit.

Abdel Hamid pointed out that the initiative receives substantial support from the state, which covers more than 50% of the cost of each residential unit. Given this level of support, beneficiaries are required to reside permanently and continuously in the new unit.

She added that this condition has been in effect since the launch of the initiative, and applicants must sign an official commitment to give up their old rent agreements upon receiving their new units. She also noted the possibility of granting even greater priority to old rent tenants in future advertising campaigns, although this has not been included in the current offering.
