Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, announced major achievements by the Egyptian government in providing housing for citizens and eliminating unsafe and informal areas. He emphasized that the ministry is prioritizing the provision of alternative housing units for tenants under the old rent law, rather than offering financial support.
During his interview with media host Mohamed Mostafa Sherdy on the program Al-Hayah Al-Youm on Al-Hayah TV channel, El-Sherbiny noted that the state has successfully eliminated dangerous and informal neighborhoods, replacing them with modern, integrated residential communities.
The Minister of Housing, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, announced the completion of 750,000 residential units and the near completion of an additional 350,000 units. He also revealed that 110,000 new housing units will be launched next week. El-Sherbiny clarified that financial aid to old-rent tenants would not be sufficient, noting that 50% of these units are already vacant. He further explained that tenants who comply with paying an increased rent will retain their right to remain in their units. The minister added that the state will provide alternative housing units through an electronic platform within three months, taking into account each tenant’s social circumstances.
