Head of Housing Committee Reveals Date for Presenting the Old Rent Law Draft to General Session

MP Mohamed Atiya El-Fayoumi, Head of the Housing Committee in the House of Representatives, confirmed that the joint parliamentary committee—comprising the Housing, Local Administration, and Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committees—has officially approved the amendments to the draft law concerning old rent contracts. The law is now scheduled to be presented at the upcoming general session on June 29.

In a phone interview with media host Sherif Amer on the program “Happening in Egypt,” broadcast on MBC Masr, El-Fayoumi explained that discussions surrounding the law included the organization of eight hearing sessions, each lasting approximately nine hours. These sessions involved listening to a wide range of perspectives from experts, research institutions, tenants, property owners, and members of parliament from across the political spectrum.

El-Fayoumi emphasized that the committee was keen to present the outcomes of these discussions to the government, which responded with openness and cooperation in reviewing the draft law. He further noted that the amendments were made through full coordination between the Housing Committee and the offices of the Local Administration and Constitutional and Legislative Committees.
