On Monday, April 14, 2025, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting with officials from Delta Electronics Systems Company to monitor the progress of supplying and installing prepaid water meters in residential units across new cities. The meeting was attended by representatives from the Ministry and the New Urban Communities Authority.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Housing emphasized the importance of managing and rationalizing drinking water consumption. This comes in line with the directives of the political leadership to reduce waste and promote efficient usage, in addition to regulating the billing system for water and wastewater services by linking customers to their actual consumption while also supporting local industries.
Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny pointed out that the Ministry of Housing aims to install prepaid meters for all subscribers in the new cities while adhering to the highest standards of cybersecurity to protect data and ensure the system’s safety.
The meeting also reviewed the efforts of Delta Electronics Systems Company in the prepaid meter project. So far, 450,000 meters have been supplied to the new cities, along with the issuance of smart cards to enhance service. Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny instructed the preparation of a plan for the supply and installation of smart meters in New Alamein and New Mansoura while continuing coordination between the New Urban Communities Authority and the company to ensure efficient implementation.
