Supply of 450,000 Prepaid Water Meters to New Cities

The Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Engineer Sherif El Sherbiny, announced the supply of 450,000 locally manufactured prepaid water meters. These meters operate under a unified program developed specifically for new urban communities, adhering to cybersecurity standards. The project aims to regulate the billing system for water and sewage consumption, reduce waste, and support local industries, as the meters were produced by Egyptian hands, enhancing reliance on domestic products.

Supply of 450,000 Prepaid Water Meters to New Cities

Engineer Ahmed Omran, Vice President of the New Urban Communities Authority, pointed out the installation of 380,000 new meters and the replacement of 27,000 traditional meters with smart prepaid ones. These meters feature intelligent water consumption management, ensuring accurate customer billing and preventing tampering. Smart recharging services have also been made available through the “Sahl” mobile application and electronic payment platforms such as Aman and Opay.

The system has been calibrated to ensure uninterrupted water supply during critical times, with an additional 10% consumption allowance available for 6 hours after the main balance runs out. Over the past three years, the authority has completed over 2 million recharges, including 610,000 electronic transactions, representing 30% of total operations.
