Maintenance System for Drinking Water Stations in Preparation for Summer

On March 27, 2025, the Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, emphasized the necessity of reviewing the operation and maintenance processes of drinking water stations to prepare for the increased water consumption during the summer season. This directive came during his inspection of several drinking water stations across different cities. He highlighted the importance of continuous monitoring to prevent breakdowns and ensure that citizens’ needs are met.

Maintenance and Operation System for Drinking Water Stations in Preparation for Summer

Engineer Sherif Abdel-Badie, Head of the New Sohag City Authority, inspected the city’s drinking water station, which produces 35,000 cubic meters per day. He monitored the work processes and ensured the correct quantities of necessary chemicals were being used.

In a similar effort, Engineer Abdelraouf El-Ghaiti, Head of the New Cairo City Development Authority, conducted an inspection tour of the station’s facilities. He received a briefing on the water filtration process and examined the pump buildings, storage tanks, and chlorine buildings. A chlorine gas leak alarm test was carried out to ensure the readiness of the equipment. Additionally, the emergency power generator was tested, and directives were issued to maintain an adequate stock of diesel fuel for emergencies. The tour also included a visit to the laboratory to monitor water sample results. Accompanying him were Engineers Gamal Fahmy and Mohamed Mohie, who ensured that the stations, pumping stations, and generators were operating efficiently to maintain the quality of service provided to residents.

Engineer Gamal Fahmy explained that the renewal and replacement of a 1000-mm-diameter discharge line from the Talaat Mostafa pumping station, which supplies several residential and industrial areas, is nearing completion. Meanwhile, Engineer Mohamed Abdelaziz, Head of the Badr City Authority, inspected Drinking Water Station No. 4, where he received an operational and maintenance briefing and discussed the challenges faced. He stressed the need for a prompt resolution of technical issues and enhancing infrastructure efficiency in line with sustainable development plans. He also emphasized the importance of regular maintenance and the adoption of modern technologies to ensure operational efficiency.

Additionally, Engineer Alaa Abdallah Mostafa, Head of the Tenth of Ramadan City Development Authority, and Engineer Ahmed Shawky from the New Urban Communities Authority conducted an inspection tour of the drinking water station (Phase Two), which has a capacity of 600,000 cubic meters per day. The objective was to assess the workflow and ensure the station’s readiness to meet the needs of urban and industrial expansions. Engineer Alaa emphasized the need to intensify efforts and apply the highest quality standards to improve services provided to citizens.
