The Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny conducted a field visit on Saturday to inspect projects to improve the efficiency of Sewage Lifting Station No. 4, which serves the industrial area, and the safe closure project of the waste landfill in the Salam area. He was accompanied during the visit by several officials from the ministry, the New Urban Communities Authority, project representatives, the Drinking Water and Wastewater Regulatory Agency, and the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater.
During the visit, El-Sherbiny reviewed the work progress at Sewage Lifting Station No. 4, which has a design discharge capacity of 25,000 m³/day and an operational average discharge of 18,000 m³/day. He also inspected the surrounding roads and the ongoing efficiency enhancement works, emphasizing the importance of regular maintenance to preserve the station’s components.
Additionally, the Minister of Housing inspected the safe closure project of the Salam waste landfill. In its first phase, the project aims to mitigate the negative effects of random landfills, rehabilitate the site, and establish the necessary infrastructure for investment and electricity production using biogas. The project covers a total area of 72 acres.
El-Sherbiny listened to a presentation about an alternative vision for the area where the Salam landfill is located, directing the necessity of developing a comprehensive vision for the project.
