The Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, reviewed the progress of projects in New Sohag City, including infrastructure, services, housing, and road networks, aiming to improve public services and attract investments. He emphasized the importance of continuing these projects to accomplish sustainable development and improve the quality of life. He also focused on meeting citizens’ needs and boosting investment opportunities in Upper Egypt.

ToggleInfrastructure and Healthcare Development
Engineer Sherif Abdel-Badi, Head of the New Sohag City Authority, reported that 97% of the Children’s Hospital, with a capacity of 263 beds, has been completed, and preliminary handover procedures are underway. Additionally, a sewage lifting station project is being implemented to serve multiple areas, reflecting efforts to improve the city’s infrastructure.
Road Network Expansion
The Head of the New Sohag City Authority announced the completion of the second phase of road construction in the 162-acre area and the 100-acre cemetery zone. Progress has also been made on the second phase of roads in the Airport Strip and the industrial area entrance. Roads in the 214-acre area and maintenance work for roads affected by natural gas projects have been completed.
Other roadworks include landscaping for the eastern service lane, completion of the western service lane leading to Sohag International Airport, and the second phase of roads in neighborhoods (3-9-10) within the 455-acre area. Additionally, roadwork surrounding neighborhoods (4-5) and (1-2-6-7-8) is being implemented, along with a one-way road leading to the social housing area.
Electricity and Power Supply
In the electricity sector, the power network for the distinctive urban strip has been completed, and initial reviews of the residential area’s electrical grid have been received. Work is underway on the electricity network for social housing buildings in the 735-acre area and its main power supply. Further, the second phase of the power grid in the 455-acre area is being finalized, in addition to the electrical network for the “Build Your Home” second-phase (B) area, covering 106 acres, and the second phase of the family housing area’s power network.
Advancements in Public Services
Significant progress has been made in the services sector, including constructing an energy-focused school with 42 classrooms in the 735-acre area. A model commercial market featuring eight shops is also being developed in the second-family housing area, with 25% of the project completed. Three commercial units have also been built in the first district and sold at a public auction. Furthermore, a new market consisting of 14 shops is under construction in the 735-acre area adjacent to the 36-acre zone.
Agricultural and Landscaping Initiatives
In the agriculture sector, the central island along Road 26 has been planted in front of 41 social housing buildings in New Sohag City. Greenery has also been added along the road leading to the city and the islands along the airport road. Maintenance and security work is being carried out for three gardens in the national housing area, including upkeep of green spaces and plantings in the central island of the airport road and along the city’s main axes. A tree fence has also been planted, along with the installation of a dedicated irrigation network. At the same time, green spaces in various areas, such as Palm and Flowers districts, are being maintained.
These extensive projects reflect the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, services, and living standards in New Sohag City, reinforcing its role as a key urban development hub in Upper Egypt.
