Engineer Sherif El-Sharbeni, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting on Sunday evening to review the progress of the urban boundaries update plan. This initiative is spearheaded by the General Organization for Physical Planning (GOPP), which operates under the ministry’s supervision. The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Housing, GOPP, the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and the Ministry of Local Development.
During the meeting, Minister El-Sharbeni instructed GOPP officials to align the urban boundaries update plan with the priorities of water and wastewater infrastructure projects being implemented as part of the presidential “Decent Life” initiative, aimed at transforming Egypt’s rural areas.
The Minister emphasized the need to establish a clear timeline for completing the update of urban boundaries for villages, as well as for creating and updating boundaries for smaller rural settlements (Ezbas). He also stressed the importance of addressing violations and encroachments on agricultural land and adhering strictly to the designated urban boundaries.
This initiative is part of the ministry’s broader strategy to promote organized urban growth, protect agricultural resources, and support the national development agenda.
