Housing Minister Holds Meeting to Review Water and Sanitation Projects and Industry Localization Efforts

Today, the Minister of Housing held a meeting to assess ongoing projects related to water and sanitation facilities, with a particular focus on localizing industries tied to this sector. The discussion aligns with directives from the President to boost local production capacities in coordination with relevant authorities.

The meeting began by reviewing the outcomes from the previous session and examined the priority projects requiring funding, which are managed by the National Authority for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage, the executive bodies, and the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater. In addition, the Ministry discussed financial flow requirements for affiliated entities and key topics affecting project progression.

A specialized committee presented a report detailing active maintenance requests, emphasizing the importance of adhering to standard maintenance procedures and optimizing the use of existing assets. The Minister also reviewed efforts to mitigate pollution in drains across certain governorates, coordinating with the Ministries of Environment, Industry, and other stakeholders.

Particular attention was given to addressing pollution in the Mohit Drain in Minya, along with ongoing plans to establish an industrial wastewater treatment plant in the Gamasa area. The session also included an update on the installation of steel pipes for the second pipeline carrying untreated water from the Maadi intake to the New Cairo purification plant. This addition aims to increase the station’s capacity by 500,000 cubic meters per day, providing a sustainable solution to water shortages in the area.

This meeting reflects the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing essential infrastructure and promoting sustainable practices for water management across Egypt.
