New Cities Witness Significant Investment Growth, Especially in Upper Egypt

The new cities in Egypt have seen substantial investment growth recently, particularly in Upper Egypt, contributing to increasing urbanization rates in these governorates. This development aims to enhance economic growth, create new investment opportunities, and generate employment.

In a recent meeting at the New Minya City Authority headquarters, Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, along with Major General Emad Kadwani, Governor of Minya, discussed the progress of ongoing developmental projects in the new cities of Minya and Mallawi. They also reviewed plans for the new city of Beni Mazar, including land use strategies. The meeting was attended by Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister, Eng. Ameen Ghoneim, Deputy Chairman of the New Urban Communities Authority for Development and City Planning, Eng. Ahmed Mostafa, Head of the New Minya City Authority, and other officials from the ministry and authority.

The Minister emphasized the need to maximize the use of unutilized spaces and increase investment opportunities of various types according to the diverse mechanisms offered by the New Urban Communities Authority. He also directed the formulation of a timeline for replacing water meters with prepaid meters across new cities.

Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny highlighted that the investments in New Minya City during the last 10 years, under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, have doubled what was spent in the 28 years between the city’s founding in 1986 and 2014.

He further noted that New Minya City is located on a plateau, with an elevation between 127-137 meters above sea level, east of the Nile, opposite the original Minya city. The city’s unique panoramic view of the Nile from its elevated western boundary gives it a distinct appeal, making it a magnet for investment and residents. Its central location between northern and southern Egypt, 250 km from Cairo, connects it to the rest of the country through five major roadways, enhancing its attractiveness for growth and development.
