Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing for Utilities and Urban Communities, chaired a workshop to officially launch the National Strategy for the Water and Wastewater Sector. This event marked a major step forward in implementing Egypt’s long-term vision for improving water and wastewater infrastructure across the country.
The workshop was attended by senior officials, including Dr. Mohamed Hassan, Head of the Water Regulatory Authority, and Eng. Ahmed Abdelkader, Head of the Executive Authority for Drinking Water and Wastewater. Key stakeholders such as representatives from the World Bank, European Union, USAID, and other international development partners were also present.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Ismail emphasized the extensive collaborative efforts that contributed to the development of this strategy, which outlines Egypt’s water sector goals through 2050. The strategy aims to improve water services, optimize operations, and introduce advanced technologies for project implementation and maintenance. Additionally, it focuses on reducing water waste, improving sludge management, and ensuring financial sustainability in line with Egypt’s broader urban and environmental policies.
He stressed that this strategy is more than a document—it’s a roadmap to ensuring clean water access and modernized services for all citizens, while promoting collaboration between public and private sectors.
The workshop featured presentations on the key pillars of the strategy and discussions on how to move forward with its implementation, making it a cornerstone of Egypt’s plan to safeguard public health and enhance the quality of life across the nation.
