Dr. Abdelkhaleq Ibrahim, Assistant Minister of Housing for Technical Affairs, held a video conference with international media representatives to present the agenda for the upcoming 12th World Urban Forum (WUF12). The meeting also featured Ana Claudia Rossbach, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN-Habitat program, and Ahmed Rizk, Director of the UN-Habitat office in Egypt.
During the session, Dr. Ibrahim highlighted the key reasons Egypt was selected to host WUF12 and discussed the significant direct and indirect benefits the country will gain from this prestigious event. Chief among these is the opportunity to showcase Egypt’s pioneering urban development efforts under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, as well as fostering collaborations with international governmental and private sector organizations.
He emphasized that Egypt’s participation in WUF12 will promote the nation’s development projects, increase local community engagement, and support local authorities in implementing urban sustainability policies. Dr. Ibrahim urged the media to provide extensive coverage of the forum, which is expected to feature hundreds of events and an accompanying exhibition.
The 12th World Urban Forum, which is the second-largest event on the United Nations’ agenda, will focus on sustainable urban development under the theme, “It All Starts at the Local Level – Local Action for Sustainable Cities and Communities.”
