Egypt’s Unified Building Law Amendments Aim to Streamline Urban Development

Cairo – Engineer Sheref El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, announced that the amendments to Egypt’s Unified Building Law align with the country’s latest urban development needs by consolidating building regulations. Speaking before the Senate’s general session, presided over by Counselor Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek, El-Sherbiny explained that the government closely monitored the impact of the law’s initial implementation and introduced modifications, which were approved by the Cabinet and referred to Parliament.

The amendments provide clear definitions of key terms related to urban planning, such as the regional strategic plan, the strategic plan for governorates and centers, and the urban development plan for both cities and rural areas. These updates also specify the roles of the General Administration for Planning and Urban Development.

One of the key objectives of these amendments is to simplify procedures, making it easier for citizens to comply with building regulations. Additionally, the changes will expedite action against unauthorized construction and help protect Egypt’s real estate assets. The revisions aim to ensure a more efficient and organized urban development process across the country.
