Egypt Intensifies Crackdown on Building Violations and Encroachments in New Cities

The Egyptian government has stepped up efforts to tackle building violations, encroachments, and irregular activities in several new cities, working in collaboration with police forces. The cities involved in these campaigns include El Shorouk, 6th of October, New Sohag, and New Nubariya.

Mohamed El-Sayed Abdel Maqsoud, Head of the El Shorouk City Development Authority, emphasized the ongoing commitment of removal committees to confront illegal construction and other violations decisively. One recent success involved the demolition of an unauthorized rooftop expansion in the city’s Fourth District, with the owner bearing the cost of the removal. Additionally, local authorities have been clamping down on heavy machinery and vehicles operating illegally. A recent campaign resulted in the confiscation of six vehicles, including two concrete mixers, a dump truck, and various other vehicles involved in illegal activities.

In 6th of October City, Mohamed Mostafa, Head of the City’s Development Authority, reported on the large-scale campaign targeting building violations. The campaign successfully halted unauthorized construction work on several properties in areas such as the Sixth Tourist District and the 2000 Piece Area. The violations primarily involved rooftop expansions that exceeded permissible building limits. Authorities also intervened in a case where a basement was being illegally converted into a commercial space, cutting off electricity to the site.

In New Nubariya, Ashraf El-Samaligy, Head of the City’s Development Authority, reported that local teams, in cooperation with the Construction Police, stopped unauthorized work on a plot of land in the “Ebni Beitak” project. The campaign resulted in the confiscation of equipment and building materials, with legal action taken against the violators.

Meanwhile, in New Sohag City, Sherif Abdel Badi, Head of the City’s Development Authority, stated that the city’s enforcement teams issued multiple citations against property owners illegally dumping waste and stockpiling construction materials in non-designated areas. A recent removal campaign targeted encroachments, including illegal roadblocks, misuse of green spaces, and unauthorized commercial activities. Abdel Badi reaffirmed the city’s commitment to continuing these campaigns and addressing all forms of violations, particularly those encroaching on public roads.

The coordinated efforts across these new cities reflect the government’s determination to maintain law and order in urban development areas, ensuring that all construction projects comply with the legal framework and urban planning regulations.
