Major General Mahmoud Nassar, head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, announced the ongoing development of the historic Sadat Rest House, which was originally built by the late President Anwar Sadat in Wadi El Raha. As part of the “Great Transfiguration” project, the rest house, used for distinguished guests, is being renovated to honor Sadat’s legacy.
The project includes a comprehensive plan for the restoration of the rest house, environmental landscaping, and the creation of a new guest area worthy of the late president. This will feature a ground floor and an upper suite dedicated to Sadat’s memory, alongside a museum garden and viewing terraces.
During a recent visit to the project by the Prime Minister, Nassar highlighted additional components of the project, including the development of the town’s heritage center. This involves upgrading the existing mosque, modernizing shops, constructing new bazaars, and transforming the area into a pedestrian-friendly, heritage-rich tourist destination that aligns with the city’s unique character.
The project also encompasses the development of a Bedouin housing area, focusing on preserving the natural and spiritual ambiance of the landscape, while adding essential services. Additionally, a new police complex is being built over 14,800 square meters, comprising a ground floor and a first floor.
A new government complex, covering 16,800 square meters, is also part of the project. This facility will house the city council, with multiple entrances, parking for VIPs, and public parking areas.
Nassar also outlined plans to upgrade the main pedestrian route through Wadi Al-Arbaeen, stretching from the visitor center to the town center, which will serve as a natural park with pathways for walking and cycling, alongside olive tree plantations.
The development of road networks and infrastructure is another critical aspect of the project, with upgrades to roadways and drainage systems to manage flood risks. Specifically, the road from Nabi Saleh checkpoint to the visitor center is being expanded, along with the road from Saint Catherine Airport to Nabi Saleh, each spanning 9 kilometers.
In addition, the project involves enhancing the electricity grid with the construction of a new power station in Saint Catherine and expansions to the Nuweiba power station. These upgrades will include a new overhead power line connecting the two stations, along with improvements to the water supply pipeline from Abu Redis to Saint Catherine.
