Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, emphasized the need to enhance the influential role of the Urban Development and Cities Sector. He called for assessing the current situation, improving performance levels, and establishing effective governance to execute various tasks assigned to the sector. To ensure progress, regular meetings will be held to monitor the sector’s work and provide the necessary support for the development of new cities.

This directive came during a meeting with Engineer Amin Ghoneim, Deputy Chairman of the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) for the Development and Cities Sector, and other sector officials. The meeting aimed to review ongoing work and plans to improve performance within the sector.

Minister El-Sherbiny instructed the intensification of the sector’s field committees to monitor the implementation of housing, service, and development projects, as well as water supply and sewage projects in new cities. He also emphasized the need to set specific standards for operations, maintenance, and cleanliness, select the best specialized companies, and conduct periodic evaluations of their performance. The goal is to provide the highest level of services to citizens and to promptly address any challenges or issues.

The minister stressed the importance of developing the sector’s work mechanisms to expedite processes and increase progress rates. He outlined the need for a strategic vision and targets across the sector’s main areas of focus (utilities, housing, services, and development) and emphasized the importance of subcommittees in new cities to expedite various tasks.

Engineer El-Sherbiny also highlighted the importance of efficiently managing human resources and redistributing them according to work needs. He called for maximizing the use of all assets, equipment, and resources in new cities and maintaining them effectively. The minister noted the vital role of field committees in assessing the current state of new cities, proposing solutions to issues, implementing corrective measures, and maintaining the urban and visual identity of these cities.

In conclusion, the Minister of Housing reiterated the ministry’s support for sector employees to achieve the desired objectives, emphasizing the need for collective efforts and teamwork to serve the country and its citizens.

During the meeting, Engineer Amin Ghoneim presented the sector’s efforts to monitor and follow up on performance in new cities, evaluate companies operating in the fields of operation and maintenance, and address stalled projects to maximize their benefits. He also discussed the current situation and future needs for water supply and sewage in new cities, in line with the Minister’s directives.
