Advisor Mohamed Al-Homsany, spokesperson for the Egyptian Cabinet, clarified the fate of housing units reclaimed from individuals who failed to pay the required fees and dues.
During a phone interview on the “6 O’Clock” program on Al-Hayat TV, Al-Homsany highlighted the government’s extensive efforts to improve the living standards of citizens, particularly through the development of informal settlements and hazardous areas. The state has invested in building housing units for citizens and bears the cost, charging only minimal maintenance fees to ensure the upkeep of these buildings.
Al-Homsany noted that there has been significant non-payment of these fees recently, leading to a substantial accumulation of dues. In response, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has instructed governors to closely monitor and address this issue, emphasizing the importance of full payment of these dues.
As a result of non-payment, 3,126 housing units have been reclaimed. These units will be redistributed to deserving citizens. However, Al-Homsany pointed out that if the outstanding dues are paid, the matter can be resolved without further action. If the non-payment continues, the housing units will be permanently reclaimed.
