Egypt Intensifies Crackdown on Unauthorized Water Connections in New Cities

The Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, led by Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, has intensified efforts to safeguard public utilities in new cities across Egypt. Several campaigns have been launched to detect and address unauthorized water connections and collect outstanding debts, ensuring the integrity and efficiency of public services.

In Beni Suef New City, the campaign led by the city’s development department, in collaboration with local police and security teams, uncovered and disconnected eight illegal water connections in commercial establishments. Engineer Ahmed Abdel-Gaber, head of the city’s development department, emphasized the ongoing commitment to regular inspections to identify and eliminate unauthorized connections, ensuring the protection of public resources.

In Damietta New City, a large-scale operation targeted unauthorized water connections in the “Dar Misr” housing project. The campaign, led by Engineer Dr. Mohamed Khalafallah, head of the city’s development department, resulted in the disconnection of 27 illegal connections and the confiscation of 11 unauthorized water pumps. The campaign also involved debt collection, ensuring that customers settle outstanding bills and regularize their water service.

Similar initiatives were carried out in the 11th District of 10th of Ramadan City and various neighborhoods in New Minya City, where unauthorized water connections were removed, and legal action was taken against violators.

These efforts, directed by Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny and supported by Engineer Amin Ghonaim, Deputy Head of the Authority for Development and City Development, reflect the government’s dedication to preserving public utilities and ensuring high-quality services for citizens in new urban developments across Egypt.
