New Administrative Capital Approaching “Green City” Status… Sustainable Development Committee Commends Smart Transformation Projects

Dr. Eng. Marwa Hussein, Head of the New Administrative Capital Authority, received a delegation from the Sustainable Development Committee of the New Urban Communities Authority during an extensive field visit aimed at monitoring the application of environmental sustainability standards and smart transformation initiatives within the New Administrative Capital. The visit was attended by several senior officials from both the authority and the city’s development body.

Implementation of Smart City Standards in the New Administrative Capital

The delegation included Dr. Hend Farouh, Supervisor of the Technical Affairs and Sustainable Development Sector and Head of the Central Unit for Sustainable Cities and Climate Change, and Dr. Ahmed Ismail, Assistant Vice President for Planning and Projects and Executive Director of the Central Unit, along with several members of the Central Unit for Sustainable Cities and Climate Change.

The visit also involved Eng. Khaled Saleh, vice chairman of the authority; Eng. Amira El-Zohairy, assistant vice chairman for the Central Business District (CBD); in addition to members of the authority’s Sustainable Development Committee chaired by Dr. Zainab Suleiman, vice chairman of the authority, along with several officials from technical and agricultural departments.

Sustainability and Clean Energy Projects in the New Administrative Capital

During the visit, the committee reviewed a comprehensive presentation outlining the key sustainability pillars being implemented in the New Administrative Capital. These included energy efficiency initiatives and renewable energy systems, as well as smart lighting solutions and energy-efficient street lighting poles across major axes.

The presentation also showcased the use of eco-friendly construction materials across various projects, in line with the state’s strategy to transition toward sustainable smart cities and reduce carbon emissions.

Expansion of Green Spaces and the Green River Project

The presentation highlighted the authority’s efforts in urban greening, including the expansion of green areas and afforestation initiatives integrated into the city’s urban planning. These efforts aim to enhance air quality and reduce overall temperatures.

The “Green River” project was also emphasized as one of the largest environmental and recreational developments in the New Administrative Capital, playing a significant role in strengthening environmental sustainability and improving residents’ quality of life.

Sustainable Transport and Connecting Districts via Electric Rail

The committee also reviewed the green planning and sustainable transportation system, which includes strengthening public transport, establishing dedicated bicycle lanes, and linking residential districts to electric rail (LRT) stations. These measures help reduce reliance on private vehicles and lower pollution levels.

Officials stressed that the New Administrative Capital operates an integrated smart transport system aligned with the latest global standards for sustainable cities.

Smart Management of Utilities, Water, and Waste

The presentation also covered the city’s efforts to enhance water efficiency through smart irrigation systems and advanced control networks, in addition to waste management and recycling systems, supporting broader sustainable development goals.

The Sustainable Development Committee praised the ongoing projects and initiatives in the New Administrative Capital, noting that they represent a leading model of green smart cities in the region.

Tour of the Central Business District (CBD)

The committee conducted an inspection tour of the Central Business District (CBD) to review smart building management systems. These systems provide full control over essential facilities through an advanced central control room managing electricity, air conditioning, lighting, fire systems, and security.

The committee affirmed that the CBD serves as a model for environmentally friendly smart buildings that comply with the highest standards of energy efficiency and carbon reduction practices.

New Administrative Capital Moving Toward Low-Emission Zone Classification

The Sustainable Cities sub-unit highlighted the initiative to classify the New Administrative Capital as a “Low Emission Zone,” reflecting the state’s commitment to reducing environmental pollution and enhancing reliance on clean energy and sustainable transportation systems.

The visit also included an inspection of the main Sustainable Cities and Climate Change unit, in preparation for the official declaration of the New Administrative Capital as a “Green City” on July 31, 2026, further strengthening its position as one of the leading modern smart city models in the region.
