Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, monitored the necessary preparations for the winter season and the management of rainfall in new cities, aiming to improve service quality and preserve infrastructure.
The minister reviewed the results of field visits conducted by ministry officials to wastewater and water stations, as well as utility works in new cities. He stressed the need for specialized teams capable of rapid intervention during severe weather conditions and increased rainfall, while ensuring the availability and readiness of necessary equipment for any emergency. He also emphasized the importance of regularly inspecting rainwater drains and sewage networks to ensure they are clean and ready for use.
The minister highlighted the importance of continuous coordination with relevant authorities, such as the Civil Protection Authority, the Ambulance Service, electricity companies, and the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater. The goal is to ensure a fast and effective response in times of crisis, in addition to strengthening efforts to clean rain drains and sewage networks to ensure efficient water discharge and reduce potential risks that may affect infrastructure or citizens’ safety.

Officials from the Ministry of Housing visited several new cities, including El Shorouk, Sheikh Zayed, New Cairo, New Damietta, New Assiut, and New Fayoum, where they inspected wastewater pumping stations, water facilities, and equipment in other cities concerned with this sector.
The visits included monitoring routine maintenance work and ensuring facility readiness for proper operation during the winter season. Efforts focused on adjusting the height of manhole covers and rain drainage chambers to improve operational efficiency and prevent water accumulation.
The efforts also included cleaning sewage and rain drains and addressing critical points to facilitate water discharge and prevent pooling. Additionally, new manhole covers were installed in some districts as part of the plan to improve basic services. Power generators were prepared and maintained to ensure continuous operation during emergencies, and a comprehensive review of submersible water pumps was conducted.
The ministry also organized practical training for technical workers to improve their ability to handle sudden crises. Measures included removing waste and sediments that obstruct drainage, as well as developing and maintaining vacuum trucks and equipment to ensure immediate response when needed.
