Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting with a delegation from the World Bank to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation in integrated land management, smart cities, and green buildings, in the presence of several senior officials from the ministry.
The World Bank delegation included Almud Weitz, Regional Director for Infrastructure in the Middle East and North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, along with several accompanying officials.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Housing welcomed the members of the mission, emphasizing the depth of the existing cooperation between Egypt and the World Bank across various development fields.

Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny presented the state’s and the ministry’s vision on urban development in Egypt, highlighting the National Smart Cities Strategy currently being implemented across several new cities. He also outlined current challenges and ongoing implementation steps aimed at upgrading existing urban areas in line with the state’s direction toward green urbanization.
The minister pointed to the state’s keenness to adopt the concept of smart city management and to strengthen institutional structures that support sustainable urban development. He further explained the ministry’s efforts in making new cities attractive destinations for residents thanks to their promising investment opportunities and available potentials.
The World Bank delegation also presented a set of ideas concerning future partnership projects, covering social housing programs, spatial and land management, along with proposing new opportunities for cooperation with the Ministry of Housing in key priority areas.
Both sides discussed the possibility of financing innovative projects that support smart city management and enhance sustainable urban development efforts in Egypt. Members of the mission expressed their satisfaction with visiting the Ministry of Housing and affirmed their strong interest in joint work. They also praised Egypt’s policies and vision in the fields of smart cities and green buildings, describing the experience as pioneering and highly notable.
