Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, held a meeting with representatives of an alliance that includes the Arab Contractors Company and a leading global firm specializing in the design, operation, and maintenance of seawater desalination plants. The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry’s Project Management Unit.
At the beginning of the meeting, representatives of the alliance expressed their strong interest in investing in the construction and operation of seawater desalination plants through cooperation with entities affiliated with the Ministry of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities. They also presented an overview of the latest technologies used in this field, along with various models and designs offered by their plants, highlighting the alliance’s technical advantages and expertise.

Dr. Ismail discussed with the alliance representatives the available investment opportunities in cooperation with the Ministry within the framework of the state’s strategy to support public-private partnerships in the water desalination sector. He also reviewed the national strategic plan for seawater desalination extending to the year 2050.
The Deputy Minister emphasized the importance of prioritizing the localization of the electro-mechanical equipment manufacturing industry essential for desalination plants—particularly the production of membranes of all types. He noted that localization is one of the state’s top priorities to achieve self-sufficiency in equipment for both current and future plants, while also opening new export opportunities to Gulf countries and North Africa.
Dr. Ismail instructed the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater to study the technical solutions proposed by the alliance and to carry out the necessary coordination to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of the best options for implementing desalination projects.
The meeting concluded with the Ministry reaffirming its full support for strengthening investment in public-private partnership projects, particularly through the entities affiliated with the Drinking Water and Sanitation Sector.
