President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received yesterday a delegation from the World Council of Churches, headed by Reverend Dr. Jerry Pillay, with the participation of Pope Tawadros II, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and several officials from the council.
The President welcomed the delegation, congratulating them on the success of the sixth conference of the Council of Churches, which was held in Egypt for the first time in Africa and Asia since 1927, praising Egypt’s spiritual stature and its historical role.
President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for Pope Tawadros II and the Church’s national and spiritual role, emphasizing the state’s commitment to safeguarding freedom of worship and promoting interfaith dialogue to foster understanding and tolerance. He underlined Egypt’s status as a land of peace and coexistence.

The meeting also discussed Egypt’s efforts to end the war in Gaza and its hosting of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit. The President called on the Council of Churches to support efforts to achieve a ceasefire and rebuild the Gaza Strip.
For their part, the delegation praised Egypt’s efforts and the President personally for his handling of the crises in Gaza and Sudan. They also highlighted Egypt’s humanitarian role in hosting more than five million Sudanese refugees and providing them with essential services.
The President concluded by noting that Egypt currently hosts around ten million foreigners who fled their countries due to ongoing crises, affirming the solidarity of the Egyptian people with them without discrimination.
