Assiut Governor Receives Minister of Housing to Review Development and Infrastructure Projects

Major General Dr. Hisham Abu Al-Nasr, Governor of Assiut, welcomed Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and New Urban Communities, along with his accompanying delegation, at the beginning of an official visit that includes a field tour to follow up on a number of housing, infrastructure, and development projects in the governorate. The tour aims to inspect implementation rates and ensure that work is progressing according to the approved plans.

This visit comes in implementation of the directives of the political leadership, headed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to strengthen comprehensive urban development and improve the quality of services provided to citizens in line with the goals of Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable development.

Upon the Minister’s arrival, the Governor of Assiut expressed his appreciation and warm welcome, noting that the state is giving increasing attention to the development of Upper Egypt, which is clearly reflected in the scale of projects currently being implemented. He affirmed that the cities of New Nasser and New Assiut represent successful models for planned urban expansion that help reduce population congestion in the main city.

For his part, Engineer Sherif El-Sherbini expressed his appreciation for the tangible achievements accomplished in the governorate in housing and infrastructure projects. He emphasized the importance of on-ground monitoring of ongoing projects and overcoming any challenges in coordination with local authorities, stressing the ministry’s commitment to improving services provided to citizens in Upper Egypt.

He explained that the ministry is implementing a comprehensive plan to develop existing cities and enhance infrastructure in new urban centers, in addition to extending drinking water and sanitation services to villages.

The minister’s field tour includes an inspection of the “Housing for All Egyptians” projects in the cities of New Assiut and New Nasser (Plateau Area), along with visits to drinking water and wastewater treatment plants in the Abutig and Al-Fath centers.

The visit also includes meetings with officials from the National Authority for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage, the Holding Company, and heads of the new cities to review the execution status of ongoing projects and discuss challenges and ways to overcome them.
